How To Mix Prints Like A Pro

At first glance, print mixing seems like a tricky trend. But all you really need is a few guidelines and a fierce attitude to master the art of mixing and matching. I promise; it’s much easier than it looks. The first thing you have to do is forget everything you every knew about fashion. Instead, think of your outfit as a visual story.

1. Mix and match prints according to colors and textures, not the prints themselves. If the colors look good together then the prints will look good too. Try using black and white, or the same color in different prints—you can’t go wrong with those when you’re not sure what colors match better.

2. Florals are definitely the most common summer print, but they are usually paired with white pants or denim. So instead, have fun with it! They look great mixed with black & white, stripes, dots, and other floral prints.

3. If print-on-print-on-print is just too much for you, that’s fine! You can mix different textures of the same color.print mixingNicolette of Nicolette Mason & Gabi of Gabifresh

If you’re already mixing prints–kudos to you, keep it up! If you’re hesitant, just HAVE FUN and remember it’s all about making a bold fashion statement. Plus, once you get the hang of it, you can forget about the rules, and do your own thing.

How To Determine Your Body Shape

Very few people have perfectly proportioned bodies and that’s okay because there is a way to flatter every figure. But first, you’ll need to determine which shape your body resembles most. There are 5 main body types:body-types

  • Apple – when you are well proportioned but with a little bit of extra around the middle. You’ll want to create shape and disguise your midriff.
  • Pear – when the width of your torso is smaller than the width of your hips. You’ll want to balance the difference between the top and bottom part of your body.
  • Hourglass – when you are well proportioned with a shapely bust and defined waist. You’ll want to strive to look taller and slimmer.
  • Rectangle – when you are well proportioned and relatively lean but lack curves. You can create the illusion of a bust and curves.
  • Inverted Triangle – when the width of your shoulders and torso is wider than the width of your hips. You’ll be able to soften your shoulders, and add volume to the lower part of your body.

Once you figure our your body type, you’ll need to know how to select clothes that bring you balance. This may sound like a lot of work but keep in mind this isn’t seasonal knowledge. Once you have it, you’ll be able to apply it over and over. I have a ton of information on dressing for each body type and I’ll be sharing it in upcoming posts. How To Choose A Figure-Flattering Swimsuit

Whether you’re sitting pretty by the pool, or catching waves at the beach, choosing the right swimwear for your shape is crucial to your summer fun. Which is why I’m sharing the guide I use with clients to find the perfect figure flattering swimsuit. IMG_20160530_080439Before you start shopping you’ll need to determine which shape your body resembles most. Bare in mind that you may be a combination of body shapes so I suggest taking a look at yourself in a full size mirror in your underwear.

  • Apple – you are well proportioned but with a little bit of extra around the middle. You can define your waistline by looking for suits with under-wire, ruching, and color-blocking. View the apple figure flattering guide here.
  • Pear  – the width of your torso is smaller than the width of your hips. You’ll want to balance the difference between the top and bottom part of your body by color-blocking or wearing embellishments on your top half. More pear shape tips here.
  • Hourglass – you are well proportioned with a shapely bust and defined waist. So you have a ton of options, but swimsuits than make you appear elongated will work best. More about the hourglass shape  here.
  • Rectangle – you are well proportioned and relatively lean but are lacking in the curve department. You can show off the fact that you have nothing to hide or you can use embellishments to your create the illusion of curves.

If you have a short torso and want to minimize the tummy area, I suggest something with an inverted print like this.plus-size-short-waist-swimsuit

If under-wire support isn’t a must have, but you want the illusion of a smaller waist minus the discomfort of shape-wear, I would recommend this one.sexy-plus-size-swim

Even though there are a lot options for the hourglass shape, I would stick to suits that really elongate the legs like this one. (Beyoncé taught us this trick.)pus-size-swimsuits

I have an apple shape, long torso, and wear an e-cup and I love this swimsuit! I’ve tried so many brands, but I keep coming back to the Swim Sexy line. Each year I excitedly wait to see what the collaboration between the blogger, Gabifresh and Swim Suits For All has to offer because they don’t disappoint.IMG_20160529_221048

5 Ways To Avoid A Winter Style Rut

Raise your hand if you woke up to below freezing temperatures and reached for your most comfy, but not so cute clothes! Don’t be shy. It’s okay, my hand is raised too. This time of year even thebest dressed tend to throw our fashion sense out the window. Let’s take a look at ways we can stay warm without sacrificing style. 20151206_132248-1

  1. Colorful layers. When I say layers, it isn’t just about shirts. Think outside the box and try layering different dresses, necklaces, jackets, etc. You can even swap out your dark or muted colored lipstick for a brighter red and dust on some shimmering bronzer to give your skin a glow!
  2. Bold accessories. My weakness is definitely in the accessory department. Aside from hats and necklaces, I choose bold bags which can really go a long way in waking up the lifeless winter look.
  3. Chic Outerwear. Let’s be realistic; there are some days there no amount of motivation that can make us dress our best. On those days reach for your nicest coat, scarf, gloves, boots, and bag. And remember, shades aren’t just great for a sunny day, they also shield your eyes from the cold blustering wind in style.
  4. Longline Blazers and Vest. I think this trend is here to stay, and boy am I loving it! Longline pieces are my secret weapon. Take any solid or print and throw a longline over it, and voilà it looks like you bought something new.
  5. New Hair Cut. Chances are the holidays may have taken a toll on you and you’re in no shape to revamp your style. If that’s the case get a new hair cut. Some of us don’t have a great track record in choosing hair styles so take this quiz. It’ll help you pick the best cut for your face and hair type.

5 Ways To Wear A Jean Jacket
