June is one of the most EXCITING months because it’s all about celebrating and honoring the LGBTQ community, what we’ve accomplished, and raise awareness for issues that we’re still working on. In addition to the Pride parades, there are plenty of unique ways to celebrate Pride Month— especially if you dig a little deeper. After taking a closer look at my options, I decided to collaborate with a brand that caters to our communities specific needs. So I teamed up Rebirth Garments for a photo shoot that was published in the summer issue of Halfstack Magazine.
Rebirth Garments are gender non-conforming wearables and accessories for people on the full spectrum of gender, size and ability. The line creates a community where all people can confidently express their individuality and identity. Rebirth Garments challenges mainstream beauty standards that are sizest, ableist, and conform to the gender binary. Instead, they maintain the notion of Radical Visibility, a movement based on claiming our bodies and, through the use of bright colors, exuberant fabrics, and innovative designs, highlighting the parts of us that society typically shuns. Through Radical Visibility, they refuse to assimilate.

Meet The Designer, Sky Cubacub
Rebirth Garments are designed and made by hand by Sky Cubacub. Sky is a QPOC (Gender Queer Person of Color) from Chicago, Illinois. Sky first dreamed of this collection in high school while unable to find a place to buy a binder as a person who was under 18, and who didn’t have access to a credit card to buy one online. Sky plans to create a program that will make free and reduced priced garments for people in need. Get to know her better in the video below.
