Wonder Woman: Dannie

Ever since I can remember, I have loved to surround myself with well-rounded people. Which is why I instantly took a liking to Dannie and her blog, Stile.Foto.Cibo. She’s a fellow Chicago based WordPress blogger, and animal lover, with technical and performance theatre art skills. As if that weren’t enough, she’s also a librarian with the patience of a elementary school teacher. Without further ado, meet our Wonder Woman of the week, Dannie!

dannie-chicago-bloggerWCW: When someone asks you what you do, what do you say?
Dannie: I tell them that I do three things: First and foremost, I am a children’s librarian. Then I am a style and lifestyle blogger, and finally, I am a stage manager on the theatre scene in Chicago.

WCW: When someone asks you what you do, what do you think?
Dannie: I think “Whoa, I do a lot. At least I love everything I do!” #DoWhatYouLove On any given day I could be ordering picture books, creating engaging book displays, doing book talks for 3rd-5th graders, running after school video gaming for middle schoolers, or (my favorite) having story time. I run story time for babies and for preschoolers, and I love it! I get to play with a room full of babies every week and it’s honestly the thing I look most forward to. They’re so fun and sweet and always so happy to bounce along with my singing.stile-foto-cibo
WCW: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Dannie: A very close friend of mine told me, way back in 8th grade, “stop trying to please everyone. Go be yourself and don’t worry about everyone.” I took that really to heart and embraced me for, well, me. Rather than trying to be what everyone else expected to be, I just started expressing myself authentically.

WCW: What’s your favorite thing to spend money on?
Dannie: Clothes and food. I totally have a savings account that I lovingly call “Mama wants a designer bag” and I’m a sucker for a really nice dinner out or some high quality ingredients to cook at home.fall-fashion-denim
WCW: If money wasn’t an issue, how would you spend your time?
Dannie: I would still be a librarian and I would still be a blogger. I absolutely adore working with kids (I work with the 0-5 crowd) and I love being a blogger and everything that comes with it.

WCW: How do you deal with disappointment?
Dannie: I pour myself a big glass of wine, watch an episode of Gilmore Girls, complain a little bit, and move on with my life. Being both a blogger and a theatre person, disappointment is simply part of my life. No is just a part of my life and while it makes me sad, I’ve gotten used to moving on from it.stile.foto.cibo.

WCW: What’s your go-to Starbucks order?
Dannie: Grande decaf on the Clover (an automated french press machine) with a cold soy topper. Caffeine makes me have panic attacks but I adore the taste of coffee. And the Clover makes coffee taste so much better.

WCW: How do you get over a low self-esteem day?
Dannie: Spend the day taking a long hot bath, snuggling my dog, scrolling Instagram and Snapchat, and reading books. This is my tried and true perfect bath formula.

WCW: Everyone has bad habits, what’s yours?
I bite and pick my nails and cuticles like it’s my job. It’s a problem. If you look at my blog photos, I try to keep my nails out of the photos unless I’ve very recently painted them. It’s a really bad habit that I want to break but I’m not sure how to even start. Everyone tells me use hot sauce but I like hot sauce!tweed-jacket
WCW: What are you proudest of?
Dannie: This might sound really cheesy but in my undergrad, I received the Vicky J. Strei Award for Vitality and Positive Attitude in the Performing Arts. It was basically an award for being a “yes person” who did everything I was asked with a smile on my face. I kept everyone happy and excited through whatever I did and it showed. I have my name on a plaque at my alma mater now and it’s honestly a huge point of pride.

WCW: List your favorite apps.
Dannie: Instagram and Snapchat!!! I’m also obsessed with the NYFW app since it lets me stream the shows and feel like I’m there without actually being there. So wonderful.

WCW: What’s your favorite store?
Dannie: Oof, this is difficult. We’re going to include online shops here. My absolute 100% favorite online boutique is t+j designs! I love how glam all of their clothing and jewelry is.

WCW: What’s your guilty pleasure?
Dannie: Doctor Who. That show is my life. It’s not even a guilty pleasure. I fly my nerd flag proudly with that one. I’m not so secretly super pissed at Netflix for taking it off. But own most of the new series on DVD so I can still watch it.

WCW: What are your favorite fashion trends right now?
Dannie: I absolutely adore faux turtleneck cropped sweaters. I just got my first one and I can’t wait to begin styling it with everything!

WCW: Do you believe in soulmates?
Dannie: Absolutely! I’m marrying a wonderful woman and I totally believe that we were meant to be.

WCW: Which category do you fall in: girls with weddings planned before they have a fiancee, or girls who wing it?
Dannie: Oh I definitely am winging it right now. The only thing I had strong feelings about was our photographer. Everything else is flying by the seat of my pants.
