Chicago Street Style

Happy Friday Eve Friends! We can thank Instagram for introducing us to this fashionista, Hayet Rida. I had the pleasure of bumping into her last week, at a pop up shop. Hayet has a sweet, and humble personality she carries along with her fierce fashion choices. Let’s jump into the interview and, get to know her a little better.

WCW: Name your favorite place to shop online and in store.

HR: Jcrew all day. Its kind of embarrassing, my favorite store is the 900 Michigan branch, and they all pretty much know me by first name, last name AND shipping address. I love to shop online at Jcrew as well, but give me a couch and some comfy pajamas and I can be on Asos for three hours straight. No shame! #Asosandchill?

WCW: What’s in your purse?

HR: My phone, my charger, a pair of flat shoes, lip balm, hand lotion and extra accessories ( I have a bad habit of taking accessories off and storing them in my bag).

WCW: Any tips for surviving Chicago winters while remaining stylish?

HR: I am the worst at dressing for winter. Rather than buy new clothes, I just figure out how to make my current pieces warmer. I wear tights under all my skirts and dresses, and layer sweaters over my shirts. I would rather brave the 20 minutes of cold to be able to still look fabulous for the hours in the day.

WCW: Are you working? If so, what’s your profession? Do you dress differently for work?

HR: I am currently a Senior Brand Strategist in an advertising agency. I am so lucky to work in an industry that thrives on creativity and self-expression. I dress the same in and out of work. One day I can show up to work in full fur, another day in tom boy chic and another in fun flirty dresses and skirts.

WCW: If I peeked in your closet, what brands or designs would I see repeat?

HR: When you are able to get through the organized chaos you will find way too much Jcrew clothes, Jackets and Shoes. Other than that, I have a sprinkle of Asos Curve, H&M and some Zara. I am also starting to explore some of the curvy boutiques Rue107, PopPlusNY and RebDolls.

WCW: How would you describe your personal style?

HR: My style is beautifully unpredictable. I dress based on my mood a lot. Some days I feel like a princess and will wear a big skirt, other days I could care less and you will see me in jeans with a hoodie with monkstrap shoes. Overall my style always has a loud pop. Either a bold lip, some bright shoes or a statement necklace. Bold pieces are almost a safety blanket for me.

WCW: What’s your favorite accessory?

HR: My favorite accessories are bold statement necklaces or bold print shoes. I have a hefty collection of bold statement necklaces from one of my favorite Ghanaian brands Christie Brown.
