Wonder Woman:Margot

Happy Friday Friends!

I have been dying to introduce to this week’s wonder woman! I’m certain you will be just as impressed with her as I am. If you missed what this series is all about click here for an update.wonder woman

Without further ado, I give you our Wonder Woman of the week, Margot! She’s a Canadian plus size style blogger and self-proclaimed nerd. Margot offers alternative plus size women a source of  style inspiration via #alternativecurves. This movement launched into a curated collection of clothes offered at cool gal blue. A company that uses 100% photo shop free images.  Click here to shop the collection. Now that the intro is out of the way let’s get to know the brain behind the beauty.

  • What makes your blog unique?

That it is 100% truly me.

  • Describe what people can expect from your blog in 5 words or less.

edge, fun, style, passion, fatshion

  • How did you choose the name for your blog or business? *I just love irony because Margot is as sweet as pie*

It’s my name! Well…not my real name, but I’ve been going by it for so long that it sticks in real life.

  • When or how did you become aware of your entrepreneurial spirit?
I have always wanted to be creative and my own boss. It’s taken years of trial and error to finally find my true passion, admit what I really want to do with my life and find a way to go after my dreams. I’m still working on it, though I think life is always a work in progress leading to new goals that are always pushing us forward.
  • Name your favorite places to shop online & in store.

I am hopelessly devoted to ASOS, Forever21 and a new online shop, Cool Gal Blue, where I got to pick a curated collection with them! And I have a laundry list of indie designers I want to buy from, like Ready to Stare, Chubby Cartwheels, Jibri, as well as some Scandinavian brands, like Junarose and Carmakoma! *Fashionista’s think alike; I am obsessed with these brands as well*

  • Do you blog full time? If not, describe your day job.

I work at blogging all day, everyday, though that does not always translate into content on the blog. It means, answering emails, managing pinterest, facebook, snapchat and instagram and also keeping up with reading blogs of my peers and reading up on the industry and ways to better myself. It’s kind of like juggling, but with housework and kitty snugs interspersed!

  • What do you find most difficult about blogging?

Turning off.  I feel a compulsion to always been connected, always checking the notifications, I hate those little red boxes, I like to have them cleared. But, I need to remember to take a day off or a few hours during the evening to break away from being constantly connected and online. *OMG! You too? I definitely struggle with this*

  • Tell us about your favorite vacation or adventure.

That’s too hard! I am varied in my vacation/adventure tastes. Right now, I’m pumped for my yearly camping trip I take with close friends. It’ll be a week to completely unplug, get all stinky with campfire, eat fire roasted foods on a stick, read books and float in the lake with an inflatable donut. But I also crave trips to big cities, like Paris, London or Tokyo for glamour, grunge, food and drinks or fun trips where I get to act like a kid and have a blast, like at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and DisneyWorld. I also have a soft spot for Portland and return almost every summer for a long weekend of fun!

  • What is your greatest personal achievement?

Learning to accept myself as I am.

  • Everyone has bad habits, what’s yours?

Procrastination station! I can easily distract myself with a million little things to do other than the task at hand! I’m also brilliant at starting projects and losing interest right before I’m finished. I’m working on this though!

Oh, and I whenever I get a great idea, I runaway with it and start thinking of step 56 instead of just starting with step one, so I am constantly overwhelming myself. Admitting and recognizing my weaknesses, and addressing them only makes me stronger! { I hope! }
  • Name 5 random facts about yourself.

I hate onions, beets, raisins and melons { watermelon is ok }

I have two cats, Bean & Detective Ashworth Grimes
I like drinking from straws, it’s more fun!
My neighbours have backyard chickens!
I want to live in London one day.

  • Describe your educational background.

The day I was handed my high school diploma was the same day I packed up my car and moved away from home. I never went back to school and found learning through doing worked best for me. Though I encourage people to seek education, sometimes structured learning doesn’t work for everyone. Do what feels right for you. *It’s an honor to meet a pioneer for alternative style and education! We need more positive examples of women who chose to educate themselves without the student loans.*

  • What are you most proud of in your professional life?

I guess just where I am now. I started from nothing, but a plus size girl that liked clothes. My 2nd blog anniversary is in September and it can be shocking to see what I’ve done in less than two years. I like to think about where I am going. If I have been able to do these things so far, than I can’t wait to see what I get to do in the future. But my highlight so far was choosing a curated collection for Cool Gal Blue, marketed under my name. It was a whirlwind of work and excitement and I loved every moment of it! I cannot wait to do another and hopefully somewhere down the line I hope to get the chance to start designing.

  • Do you have a favorite blog post?

Oh, wow, that is a tough one. I don’t think I can pick! I guess I’d have to say my most recent post, and I will most likely say that every single time. Otherwise, why am I posting it?

  • Has your blog changed your life?

It’s given me a glimpse of my potential and an alternate avenue to achieve my dreams. So often we are told we have to go to school to accomplish things, but that is not always true.  I’m just taking the long way round, my own path.

  • What’s your favorite quote?

My current favourite quote is actually kind of my mission statement for my blog,

“In a society that profits from your self doubt, liking yourself can be a rebellious act.”

the source is unknown, but it speaks to my very core!

Now, my all time favourite quote is by Hunter S Thompson,

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

and that may speak loads about what kind of person I am.

  • What’s your favorite line of cosmetics?

I’m a drug store beauty queen! I wear a lot of rimmel, but I do have a a few upscale pieces. I can’t live without my Urban Decay primer! I’m also truly smitten with a NARS highlight powder called “albatross”. And I have a lust list the length of my arm for all the beautiful matte lipsticks being put out by indie brands.

  • Describe your best practices for organization and balance.
Oh boy, I dunno if I have any! I do however want to get my hands on a kikki.k planner! So I can keep everything together. I’m also very tactile and I like to write things down and make lists.
Writing things down helps keep everything straight up in my head!

As always thank you for reading, commenting, and liking!
