Word Of The Week:Confidence

“Low self-confidence isn’t a life sentence. Self-confidence can be learned, practiced, and mastered–just like any other skill. Once you master it, everything in your life will change for the better.”

Confidence isn’t something we’re born with, it’s a benefit of hard work. It’s often confused with arrogance, but rest assured they are two very different things. Let’s take a look at the definitions. Confidence is defined as a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities. Whereas, arrogance is defined as having an exaggerated sense of one’s own self-importance or abilities. The problem is most of us rely on others to boost our confidence and too often people aren’t as positive as we need them to be. Which is why we have to take back the power and improve upon ourselves. This is a lesson I learned as people entered and exited my life. I slowly but surely got to know myself better, and treat myself better. During this process Youtube became my best friend. I learned to mimic makeup tutorials and began cutting, dying and styling my own hair. I couldn’t have done it with out so much support so I hope the tips below are helpful to you.

5 Steps To Confidence

  1.  In all that you do (work/home/school) give it your best shot and always be as prepared as possible.
  2. Get to know yourself by journaling and engaging in activities such as dining out and movie theaters alone.
  3. Replace each negative thought with a positive statement out loud while smiling. Practice makes perfect so be patient.
  4. Give yourself a make over or pay a professional for some assistance. Pick an area to focus on if this is overwhelming.
  5. Develop your own set of golden rules to live by and conduct yourself accordingly to prevent disappointing yourself.
